Ukraine Under Night Attack: Air Defense Downs 7 Missiles and 95 Drones, But Some Hit Targets.
July 12 Assault on Ukraine
According to UATV: On July 12, Russian forces launched a major strike against Ukraine, deploying nine Kh-59/69 missiles, four Kh-31 missiles, and 115 attack drones. According to Ukrainian air defense reports, defenders intercepted seven Kh-59/69 missiles and 95 drones. However, two missiles and 19 drones struck their intended targets across 12 different locations.
The Kh-31 anti-radiation missiles fired during the attack failed to hit their marks. The assault had a particularly devastating impact on the city of Sumy, where the death toll has climbed to five, with 30 people wounded. This underscores the severity of the situation and the heavy toll on civilians.
Origins of the Threat and Consequences
The drones were launched from multiple regions, including:
- Kursk
- Oryol
- Primorsko-Akhtarsk
- Millerovo
- Gvardeyskoye
- Occupied territories of Donetsk
These events highlight that the aerial threat remains severe, and Ukrainian forces continue working to bolster their defenses.
This attack serves as a stark reminder of the critical importance of air security for Ukraine. Despite robust air defense efforts, the civilian toll remains tragic. Each new bombardment underscores the urgent need for international support and advanced technologies to counter aerial threats—a key priority amid the ongoing conflict.
