Strike on the 'Kuban — Crimea' Power Bridge

According to UATV: On July 8, 2023, the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine launched an attack on the 'Kuban — Crimea' power bridge and other energy infrastructure targets in the temporarily occupied regions of Crimea and Luhansk Oblast. The operation's primary objective was to disable a key electricity reception point of the power bridge, which serves as a vital link between mainland Russia and the occupied peninsula.

Spanning 14.5 kilometers, the 'Kuban — Crimea' power bridge transmits electricity through four underwater cable lines. Between July 1 and July 8, 2023, a total of 50 energy facilities were struck during the campaign. Notably, the targeted substations included:

  • 'Nyzhniohirsk'
  • 'Pumping Station-3'
  • 'Novotroitske'
  • 'Kalynowe'
  • 'Troitske'

Additionally, the strikes damaged three radar stations, including two P-18 radar systems and a 1L22 'Password-4' station. In a single night, 53 military targets were hit.

As Robert 'Madjar' Brovdi stated, 'This is about striking the key electricity reception point of the 'Kuban — Crimea' power bridge, the entry point from mainland Russia to the occupied peninsula.'

This attack marked a significant step in the Ukrainian Armed Forces' efforts to destabilize the enemy's energy infrastructure in the region.

Strategic Campaign by Ukrainian Forces

The actions of Ukrainian forces in Crimea and Luhansk Oblast reflect an ongoing strategic campaign aimed at weakening the resource base of Russian troops. Targeting energy facilities can have a substantial impact on enemy military operations, as electricity is crucial for powering military equipment and infrastructure. These developments highlight the importance of controlling energy resources in conflict zones and could further shift the balance of power on the front lines.

He also added, 'From July 1 to July 8, the 'Birds of the SBU' visited and 'smoked out' 50 energy nodes in Crimea and the southern part of the temporarily occupied territories.'
