Overnight Assault on Ukraine

According to UATV: On the night of July 8, Russian forces launched a multi-wave attack on Ukraine, deploying a mix of missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles. The arsenal included Kh-31P anti-radiation missiles, ballistic 'Iskander-M' missiles, and S-400 systems. In total, 169 strike drones were released into Ukrainian airspace.

By 8:00 AM that same day, Ukrainian air defense units had successfully shot down or suppressed 139 enemy UAVs. During the engagement, five Iskander-M and S-400 missiles were destroyed. Additionally, 20 drones were neutralized across 11 separate locations. Debris from downed missiles and drones fell on seven sites, indicating potential damage to populated areas.

Air Defense Performance

Notably, two Kh-31P missiles failed to reach their intended targets, underscoring the effectiveness of Ukraine’s air defense systems. This attack marks another phase in the ongoing escalation of hostilities between Ukraine and Russia, a conflict that has persisted for an extended period.

This assault highlights the continued intensity of combat operations between Russia and Ukraine, while also emphasizing the critical role of air defense in safeguarding Ukrainian territory.

The high success rate of Ukrainian air defense forces—neutralizing a substantial portion of enemy drones and missiles—demonstrates their capability to counter modern threats. The escalation of the conflict, particularly through the use of diverse weapon systems, raises the risk of further civilian casualties and infrastructure destruction.
