Russia Launches Combined Aerial Assault on Ukraine

According to Novyny.live: On the night of June 28, Russia carried out a large-scale, multi-vector aerial attack against Ukraine, deploying both missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles. Ukrainian air defense forces responded effectively, successfully intercepting and destroying 132 incoming threats out of a total of 150.

Breakdown of the Attack

The assault began with the launch of two anti-ship missiles, identified as either Zircon or Onyx types. Additionally, six ballistic missiles—Islander-M and S-400 models—were fired from the Bryansk region. In total, the aggressor deployed 142 attack drones, including Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas, and other variants.

The performance of Ukraine’s air defense was notable: one anti-ship missile, all six ballistic missiles, and 125 drones were shot down. This brings the total number of neutralized aerial targets to 132. However, despite these defensive successes, one missile and 14 drones managed to strike 11 separate locations. Falling debris from downed targets was reported at 13 sites.

This attack marks another escalation in the conflict, underscoring the persistent and serious threats to Ukraine’s security, even as air defense forces continue to operate effectively.

The destruction of such a high number of aerial targets highlights the advanced training and capability of Ukraine’s military in air defense operations. Nevertheless, the fact that some missiles and drones hit their targets on Ukrainian soil demonstrates that the threat from the aggressor remains substantial.

This incident reinforces the urgent need for further strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities and continued international support in countering aggression.
