Exchangers Refuse to Sell Dollars: Which Banknotes Are Not Accepted in Ukraine.
Not all dollar banknotes can be sold to Ukrainians. It is important to ensure that the cash meets all requirements before taking it for exchange. This way, citizens can avoid issues.
Which Dollar Banknotes Cannot Be Exchanged
According to Ukrainian currency legislation, exchange operations with dollar banknotes can only be carried out with notes issued after 1914. However, financial institutions often refuse to exchange old banknotes, especially those issued in 1996-2003, despite this being against the law.
“Authorized institutions are obliged to accept foreign currency banknotes that fully comply with the samples and descriptions on the websites of central/national banks,” the National Bank of Ukraine stated.
Institutions have the right to refuse service if the cash exhibits signs of counterfeiting, is obviously fake, severely damaged, completely withdrawn from circulation, or issued before 1914.
Which Banknotes Are Sent for Exchange
Banknotes with signs of severe damage may be sent for exchange, as they cannot be sold. According to the Instruction on Payment Operations in Ukraine, banknotes that are torn into pieces, have damage to design elements and security features, altered colors or images, as well as soiling and other defects are sent for incasso.
Such banknotes are also unsuitable for exchange on the black market, as they will not be sellable even at a low price.
What Else Should Ukrainians Know
Ukrainians are recommended to get rid of certain dollar and euro banknotes as soon as possible, as problems may arise when exchanging old notes. It is also worth knowing that the 500 euro banknote may be refused for acceptance in the European Union.
If mold appears on the dollars, one can try to save them by wiping with a dry cloth and treating them with a weak bleach solution.
It is important to remember that national and commercial institutions have the right to refuse to exchange banknotes that do not meet established requirements. This can lead to problems for citizens when exchanging old or damaged banknotes. Therefore, it is wise to pay close attention to the condition of cash before exchanging it to avoid issues and keep financial resources secure.
