Germany stops military aid to Ukraine - Bild.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Finance Minister Christian Lindner have halted the intake of new applications for funding military aid to Ukraine. This was reported by Bild.
According to the publication, existing agreements will be fulfilled, but new aid applications, particularly from the Ministry of Defense, will not be approved. This was made possible due to the lack of necessary funds in the current budget planning that could have been allocated to Kyiv.
It is known that in July Defense Minister Boris Pistorius proposed increasing aid to Ukraine by 4 billion euros, but the Prime Minister’s office and the German Ministry of Finance oppose this. Thus, according to the statements, Ukraine will receive aid in the previously approved amounts, but additional applications from the German Ministry of Defense will not be approved.
Earlier it was reported that Germany could save between 30 and 50 billion euros by stopping funding to Ukraine, strengthening migration policy, and changing energy policy.
It is worth noting that the German authorities will include road reconstruction in military expenditures to meet the required NATO defense spending level. According to the demands of the North Atlantic Alliance, Germany must spend at least 2% of GDP annually on defense. To help achieve this goal by 2028, a special fund of over 100 billion euros is to be established.
