Germany’s New Social Support Framework

According to Novyny.live: Many Ukrainians living in Ukraine are closely watching policy shifts in Germany. Starting July 1, 2026, Germany will roll out a revamped social welfare system. As part of this, the national minimum wage will rise to €13.90 gross per hour from January 1, 2026, with a further increase to €14.60 gross planned for January 1, 2027. These adjustments aim to boost household incomes and reinforce social stability.

Payments Under the Grundsicherung Program

Under the new welfare system, a single person receiving Grundsicherung will get €563 per month in basic financial support. For children under the age of 6, the minimum monthly payment will be €357, roughly equivalent to 18,170 Ukrainian hryvnias. These changes reflect the German government’s push to improve living conditions for vulnerable groups.

Beneficiaries of Grundsicherung must meet several requirements. Specifically, they are required to:

  • attend meetings with Jobcenter representatives;
  • participate in integration programs;
  • consider employment opportunities.

These conditions are designed to help recipients integrate into society and find jobs.

In short, Germany’s new social support system aims not only to raise the minimum wage but also to create a more comprehensive safety net for those in need.

These reforms could significantly affect Ukrainian migrants in Germany, as the updated social programs may offer crucial assistance to those facing financial hardship. Successful integration of program participants into the community is also a key goal, potentially easing their adaptation and improving their quality of life in their new home country.
