German Defense Firm Diehl Defence Eyes Production of Ukrainian Cruise Missiles.
Diehl Defence and Fire Point in Talks
According to UATV: Germany's Diehl Defence is currently negotiating with Ukrainian developer Fire Point over a potential partnership to manufacture Ukraine's FP-5 'Flamingo' cruise missiles. A central topic of discussion is the possibility of setting up production facilities for these missiles within Germany. Diehl Defence CEO Helmut Rauch has confirmed that several meetings are scheduled in the coming weeks to hammer out the details of this collaboration.
These discussions come as Germany seeks alternatives to American Tomahawk missiles, following U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to cancel their planned deployment in Germany. In this shifting landscape, teaming up with a Ukrainian manufacturer could prove pivotal for bolstering Germany's defense capabilities.
Fire Point's Technological Readiness
Fire Point has already demonstrated its technological maturity by successfully testing its FP-7 surface-to-air missile. Helmut Rauch remarked:
“We are in discussions about how we could work together. I believe it is truly feasible.” - Helmut Rauch
Localizing missile production in Germany could enhance the country's defensive strength while simultaneously advancing Ukraine's defense industry.
This potential partnership could significantly impact the defense sectors of both nations, specifically by:
- Opening new doors for Ukrainian manufacturers aiming to enter the global market.
- Providing Germany with access to innovative technologies and solutions that could strengthen its defense posture amid a changing global security environment.
