The writer Han Kang refused a press conference and celebration of her victory in the Nobel Prize for Literature due to the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East. Her father stated that Han Kang said: "How can we hold a celebration or press conference when the war is escalating and people are being killed every day?" She changed her mind after receiving the award.
Han Kang is already a laureate of the International Booker Prize for her novel "The Vegetarian." She began her writing career with the publication of poems in the magazine "Literature and Society." In 2023, she was elected an international writer of the Royal Literary Society. She has also received other awards and has been teaching creative writing since 2013.
