Weymouth FC Commentator Fired After Controversial Tirade on Air: What Happened.
Commentator Excluded Due to Emotional Performance
According to The Sun: Weymouth FC unexpectedly fired its commentator Ben Ashleford after his angry performance on air directed at the club's management.
Weymouth FC plays in the seventh division of the Southern League Premier Division South and is managed by former Leicester player Steve Claridge.

During the broadcast, Ashleford exclaimed:
“You can’t hide this, none of you. It’s your fault. I’m absolutely serious.”
He also invited board members to join the podcast, stating:
“I suspect you don’t have the guts.”
The commentator emphasized the absence of directors, asking why there was only one fan representative present at the match.
The club chairman Ralph Ricardo later commented on Ashleford's resignation in an official statement, acknowledging that
“Ben’s passion exceeded what is typically expected.”
Ricardo also noted:
“In the context of official commentary, these boundaries were crossed.”
He clarified that the decision to fire him was made by mutual consent, and Ashleford admitted that he let both himself and the club down.
After the incident, Ashleford apologized on X, formerly known as Twitter, acknowledging his mistake. He wrote:
“I recognize that I was wrong. Such an angry tirade has no place on the club's official media channel.”
The commentator also added that his anger arose from incorrect information regarding two board members leaving the stadium early.
Weymouth FC has faced challenges for the second consecutive year after being relegated from the National League in 2022, and this situation has now reflected even in the commentary room.
