Norway and Ukraine Join Forces to Secure the Grain Corridor

According to Espreso.tv: Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre has unveiled a new partnership with Ukraine focused on safeguarding the Black Sea grain corridor. Operational since September 2023, this vital shipping route has already facilitated the transport of 200 million tons of goods. More than half of that volume consists of grain, underscoring Ukraine's essential role in global food supply chains.

Støre made the announcement at the NB-8 summit in Tallinn, highlighting that Norway—alongside the United Kingdom—co-leads the naval support coalition for Ukraine, which was established in 2023. As part of this effort, Norway is investing heavily in its naval capabilities, allocating $242 million in December 2024. Additionally, in June 2025, the country announced plans to manufacture surface drones within Ukraine.

Financial Backing and the Strategic Role of Maritime Industry

Norway is also supporting Ukraine through the PURL program, which in May 2026 allocated $302 million for the purchase of American weaponry. Norway's total contribution to this program has now exceeded $1.2 billion.

'I am pleased that these competencies can also be used to support Ukraine's fight for freedom' — Jonas Gahr Støre.

This latest initiative reflects the growing international backing for Ukraine amid the ongoing crisis. The grain corridor not only bolsters food security for numerous countries but also serves as a critical pillar of Ukraine's economic stability during this challenging period. As a result, the partnership with Norway holds significant potential for positive outcomes in both global security and food policy.
