Arrest of Suspects Planning Terror Operations

According to Espreso.tv: Ukraine's Security Service (SBU), led by Major General Oleksandr Poklad, detained two individuals who were orchestrating a series of terror attacks in the Kharkiv region under orders from Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB). The operation was launched after the SBU identified a threat to Ukrainian troops. Since the full-scale invasion began in 2022, such counter-intelligence actions have become a central part of Ukraine’s defense against Russian destabilization efforts.

The suspects were recruited via Telegram channels by the FSB and initially carried out a test assignment—setting fire to a vehicle belonging to Ukraine's Defense Forces. Following that, their handler instructed them to organize a so-called "charity" party aimed at gathering Ukrainian military personnel. To execute this, they rented a house outside the city, attracting several dozen attendees, most of whom were service members.

Planned Attack and Apprehension

During preparations for the event, the suspects planned to mix potent substances into the drinks of the guests. Additionally, their handler ordered them to construct an improvised explosive device with a yield equivalent to 10 kilograms of TNT. One suspect was caught while transporting the bomb in a backpack; the other, a woman, was arrested at the rented house where she was synthesizing components for the explosive. The SBU’s swift action thwarted what could have been a devastating attack, further highlighting the persistent threat from Russian intelligence agencies that continue to deploy recruitment and terrorism tactics to destabilize Ukraine. The arrests underscore the effectiveness of Ukrainian law enforcement in countering terrorism and safeguarding civilians.
