During a face-to-face meeting in Omsk, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev urged Vladimir Putin to halt the fighting in Ukraine. The plea was immediately dismissed by the Kremlin. Spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Russia would continue to pursue its military goals, ignoring Tokayev's call.

Astana's drive for peace stems from the conflict's severe economic toll, including strikes on crude-carrying vessels. Faced with growing challenges, Kazakhstan is scrambling to cushion its economy from the war's ripple effects.
