Russia has stepped up attacks on the energy system: why winter will be more difficult.
Russia has intensified strikes on Ukrainian energy networks
According to inkorr.com: The Russian military continues targeted attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. This has led to emergency and planned electricity outages in several regions. Experts believe this winter promises to be significantly harsher than the previous one.
Andrii Dlihach, a doctor of economics and head of the Advanter Group analytical center, shared this on the 24 Channel. He stressed that Ukrainians should prepare for new large-scale blackouts and electricity supply restrictions, as Russia has changed its attack tactics.
'Last winter we had fewer shelling incidents and were able to stabilize the energy system. This year, Russia is acting differently – the number of strikes has increased, and the targets are not only generation facilities but also key points in the energy networks,' Dlihach noted.
The expert also explained that risks are increasing due to low electricity reserves, particularly in regions near the Dnipro River. In the event of serious attacks, the energy system could split into two parts. In addition, Ukraine has already used part of its electricity import capabilities, while local energy-independent communities continue to rely on main gas pipelines.
Preparing for a harsh winter
Despite this, Dlihach emphasized that both citizens and government bodies are consciously approaching preparations. He called the late start of the heating season a 'smart saving step' in conditions of lower gas reserves compared to last year. Many businesses have already taken steps to ensure their energy independence, and energy facilities are preparing for potential attacks, including using drones.
'Winter will be cold and difficult. There are serious risks of blackouts, so businesses and communities need to prepare in advance. There is little time left before the cold, but we can still do a lot,' Dlihach summarized.
Against the backdrop of increasing attacks on energy networks, the Ukrainian energy system is forced to respond promptly to new challenges. Experts urge businesses and citizens to be ready for possible blackouts and restrictions, as the stability of electricity supply may be under threat in the coming months. This once again highlights the importance of energy efficiency and self-sufficiency for every consumer.
