Ukraine to Introduce New Military Bonuses in 2026 for Academic Achievement and Combat Duty.
New Bonus Payments for Ukrainian Military Personnel in 2026
According to Novyny.live: Starting in 2026, Ukrainian service members will be eligible for new bonus payments. These will reward academic qualifications and combat-related duties, aiming to support personnel who combine military service with scientific work or who undertake high-risk missions. This initiative is part of broader efforts to modernize military compensation during a period of prolonged conflict.
Bonuses for academic degrees will be calculated as a percentage of base pay:
- A 5% supplement for those holding a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree;
- A 10% supplement for those with a Doctor of Sciences degree.
This structure is designed to incentivize ongoing professional development and foster military-related scientific research.
Similarly, bonuses for academic titles will be awarded:
- A 5% supplement for the title of Associate Professor;
- A 10% supplement for the title of Professor.
These payments are intended to encourage scholarly activity within the armed forces, thereby raising overall professional standards.
Separate from academic bonuses, substantial task-based supplements will be introduced. Personnel performing combat duties will receive an additional 30,000 hryvnias. Those serving within military command bodies will get 50,000 hryvnias. The highest supplement of 100,000 hryvnias is reserved for service members deployed in active combat zones or undergoing medical treatment for injuries.
It is also noted that the minimum monetary provision for Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel in 2026 will be set at 20,100 hryvnias. These comprehensive changes to the payment system seek to enhance social protections for service members and bolster their motivation in fulfilling duties.
'The new payment system for Ukrainian military personnel represents a significant step toward improving their social protection and motivation.'
Supporting service members engaged in scientific work could drive innovation in defense technology, ultimately strengthening the operational effectiveness of Ukraine's military. Attracting highly qualified specialists to serve can also help address complex challenges the nation faces during wartime.
