Ukraine, U.S., and Russia to Hold Trilateral Talks

According to UATV: Representatives from Ukraine, the United States, and the Russian Federation are set to meet again in a trilateral format to discuss ending hostilities. This meeting occurs within the context of a full-scale war that has now lasted for four years. In an interview with the FREEДOM TV channel, expert Stanislav Zhelikhovsky stated that significant progress toward a peaceful settlement should not be expected. He emphasized that an analysis of previous meetings supports this view:

“If we analyze the previous meetings, there has been no major progress in terms of a peaceful settlement,” - Stanislav Zhelikhovsky.

The situation remains complex. According to Zhelikhovsky, there are currently no specific timelines for the return of Ukrainian citizens from Russian captivity. The expert expressed hope that the new round of talks might allow the parties to advance on humanitarian issues:

“It would be good if the parties during the new round of talks can make progress on humanitarian issues,” - Stanislav Zhelikhovsky.

Furthermore, Zhelikhovsky noted that even if the Russian Federation agrees to something, it often violates these agreements itself. He added that Russia's losses—both human and economic—are colossal and in many ways unprecedented:

  • “The Russian Federation, even if it agrees to something, often itself violates these agreements,” - Stanislav Zhelikhovsky.
  • “Russia's losses—both human and economic—are colossal and in many ways unprecedented,” - Stanislav Zhelikhovsky.

The expert called for a concerted effort to counter further aggression and to change approaches to the peace process:

  • “We need to pool all resources to counter further aggression and change approaches to how to bring peace closer,” - Stanislav Zhelikhovsky.

The situation remains tense, and the upcoming negotiations could prove decisive for the development of events in the region.

Humanitarian Aspects and Future Prospects

The trilateral talks between Ukraine, the U.S., and Russia are taking place against the backdrop of a prolonged armed conflict, now in its fourth year, and offer little cause for optimism. Previous meetings have not yielded significant results, highlighting the complexity of the situation and the distrust between the parties. At the same time, humanitarian issues, such as the return of prisoners, remain pressing, and hopes for progress in this area could become one possible path toward improving the situation. The continuation of negotiations may influence the future course of events in the region, particularly in the context of countering further aggression from Russia.
