On Constitution Day, Biletskyi Highlights Ukrainians' Primary Duty.
Ukraine Marks Constitution Day
According to Novyny.live: June 28 is a major national holiday in Ukraine—Constitution Day. On this occasion, Andriy Biletskyi, commander of the Third Army Corps, addressed the nation, underscoring the significance of the country's founding law amid wartime. He stressed that defending the state stands as every citizen's foremost responsibility.
'Today, we must fulfill the most crucial of these laws: to protect the state and the right to live as free people,' Biletskyi declared.
Adopted three decades ago, Ukraine’s Constitution serves as the bedrock of statehood and the social contract. It enumerates 44 rights and 4 duties for citizens, defining their relationship with the state and society. This document not only guarantees rights but also places on citizens the obligation to preserve Ukraine’s independence and territorial integrity.
Biletskyi argues that amid present-day challenges like war, it is essential to view the Constitution as a 'living document'—one that is given daily meaning through citizens' actions. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy echoes this view, emphasizing that the Constitution is the foundation for building a rule-of-law state and a society where human rights and freedoms prevail.
The Need for Active Citizenship
Observing Constitution Day serves as a powerful reminder that fulfilling civic duties and actively participating in national defense are key to preserving Ukraine’s freedom and independence.
In Ukraine, Constitution Day is more than a commemoration of the founding law’s adoption; it underscores the importance of an engaged citizenry in the face of modern challenges. The ongoing war highlights the necessity of unity and personal responsibility for the country’s future. Greetings from military leaders and politicians on this day lend extra weight to the holiday, as they focus attention on the need to protect the rights and freedoms enshrined in the Constitution under difficult circumstances.
This holiday also serves as a reminder of how vital it is to uphold and defend the core principles of democracy and the rule of law in Ukraine.
