New mobilization rules in Ukraine have simplified the process of volunteering for the army

According to the new rules that came into effect on October 5, volunteers can now interact directly with the chosen military unit throughout the entire mobilization process. This means there is no longer a need to visit territorial recruitment and social support centers (TCC) for document processing.

An important innovation is the granting of authority to military unit commanders to issue directions for military medical commissions (MMC) directly. This simplifies the procedure and provides some protection to volunteers - having such a direction prevents forced mobilization for at least five days from its issuance.

However, it is important to note that the new recruitment rules apply mainly to priority units. Non-priority units can also directly call up volunteers, but it requires prior approval of the candidate's appointment by the General Staff. The unit's status (priority or non-priority) can be found out from the unit's representative after the interview.

It should be noted that these changes apply only to mobilization recruitment. For those wishing to serve under contract, the previous mechanism using recommendation letters remains.

The mobilization process for volunteers now looks like this:

  • first, the candidate responds to a vacancy in the chosen defense unit,
  • after successfully passing the selection and receiving a positive decision from the unit representative, the volunteer sends an application to the military unit commander with the desire to enlist for military service in the chosen position,
  • the next step is obtaining a referral for MMC from the unit commander,
  • after completing the MMC (which can take place at the registration place at TCC or at the location of the military unit's permanent station), the individual is accepted for service in the chosen position.

For individuals without military service experience in the last ten years, a detachment to the Training Center for basic general military training is provided. Upon completion of this training, the volunteer proceeds to serve in the selected position.

Recruitment in the Security and Defense Forces

Vladyslav Greziev, founder of the Lobby X platform, which deals with recruitment in the Security and Defense Forces, emphasized the importance of this decision. According to him, the initiative of the General Staff allows avoiding mistakes during the distribution of volunteers after passing training centers.
