From October 5, new transfer rules in the EU: what will change for Ukrainians.
From October 5, 2025, a new regulation Instant-Payment-Verordnung (EU) 2024/886 will come into force in all banks of the European Union, changing the process of bank transfers within the SEPA system. This innovation will apply to all users of the single euro payments area, including Ukrainians with accounts in European banks.
Changes in the SEPA system
According to inkorr.com: The SEPA system covers EU countries, as well as Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Switzerland, allowing quick and convenient transfers in euros. The new rules stipulate the verification of IBAN and automatic matching with the recipient's name. This means that even the smallest writing errors can lead to the payment being stopped.
Payment verification
After making a transfer, the sender will receive the verification result. If all data matches, the transaction will be successful. However, minor discrepancies can lead to warnings or even payment blocking.
This could create new risks for Ukrainians in Europe, as even minor errors in writing names can lead to the rejection of the transfer. Experts advise carefully checking your data and notifying senders of the need for accuracy. The new rules apply to all banks in the European Union and cannot be avoided.
Impact on Ukrainians
This will particularly affect Ukrainians who receive salaries from European companies, use SEPA for transfers, or have different variants of writing their names in documents and bank details.
The approval of the new regulation for bank transfers in EU countries that jointly use the single euro area could significantly impact Ukrainians with accounts in European banks. The new requirements will demand special attention to the accuracy of data entry, as even minor errors can lead to payment blocking. To avoid misunderstandings, experts advise carefully checking your data and clearly notifying senders of your details.
