Ukrainians may have to start paying for entry into the European Union. This new measure involves an increase in the fee for obtaining an entry permit through the ETIAS system to 20 euros (972 UAH).
The European Commission reported this, noting that the updated tariff may come into effect in 2026.
The decision to increase the fee must be approved by the EU Council and the European Parliament. This initiative is part of the EU's border control update, which involves transitioning to an electronic system and launching new technologies such as the Entry/Exit System (EES).
Thus, Ukrainians may have to pay for the opportunity to travel in the EU, reflecting the overall trend of digital modernization of customs and border control in the European Union.
