This service offers a faster and more comfortable travel option between the two nations. For travelers, this provides a scenic and efficient alternative to flying or driving across Scandinavia.
The train departs Malmö at 6:38 AM, arriving in Oslo at 1:13 PM. The return journey leaves Oslo at 2:48 PM, reaching Malmö at 9:25 PM. The route includes stops at several cities, such as:
- Lund
- Helsingborg

- Trollhättan
- Sarpsborg
- Fredrikstad
These stops create opportunities for passengers to explore these destinations along the way.
Tickets for the new route are on sale at an introductory price of 149 Swedish kronor (approximately 14 euros) until October 28, 2023. Furthermore, the operator, Leo Express, plans to introduce high-speed Talgo trains in the first half of 2026. These Talgo trains will have a capacity for 350 passengers and can reach speeds of up to 200 km/h. Separately, PKP Intercity intends to acquire 20 high-speed electric trains capable of speeds up to 320 km/h, with their launch planned for after 2027.
Impact on Transport and Tourism
This new route will not only simplify travel between Sweden and Norway but also unlock new possibilities for tourists and business travelers. The improved connectivity is expected to boost regional economic activity and cultural exchange.
The launch of the Malmö-Oslo train service is set to significantly enhance transport links between these two Scandinavian countries. This improvement is likely to foster the development of tourism infrastructure and business opportunities. By stopping at multiple cities, the service may also stimulate domestic tourism, encouraging travelers to visit smaller towns along the route. Additionally, the plans for high-speed Talgo trains and new electric trains reflect a growing regional focus on modernizing rail transport infrastructure.
