A 19th-Century Fortress in Poland Is Being Turned Into a Hotel: Former Barracks That Once Housed 20,000 Soldiers.
Reviving the Modlin Fortress
According to Tourism.d.ua — Туризм: Poland is moving forward with a project to restore the historic Modlin Fortress and transform its 19th-century barracks into a hotel. The three-star establishment will initially offer 123 rooms, with plans to eventually expand to 250.
Spanning over 2 kilometers in length, the Modlin Fortress barracks are a site of major historical significance. The fortress itself will celebrate its 220th anniversary in 2026. The hotel complex will feature:
- a restaurant
- a lobby bar
- a lounge area with a terrace
- two conference halls
The larger conference hall will accommodate events on roughly 250 square meters of space.
Project Goals and Vision
The hotel and fortress restoration are designed to draw tourists and spark greater interest in the region’s historical landmarks. Originally built to house approximately 20,000 soldiers in the 19th century, the scale of the architectural complex is immense. In this way, the Modlin Fortress is evolving from a heritage site into a modern tourist destination.

Beyond preserving cultural heritage, the project aims to stimulate the local economy by attracting visitors. Given the fortress's deep historical roots, its conversion into a tourist attraction could play a key role in promoting Polish history and architecture to travelers from around the world.
