According to ТСН: Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev emotionally reacted to the military operation carried out by the United States in Venezuela. The former president of Russia used this incident to express his criticism regarding Ukraine.

Medvedev's comments

In his reaction, he noted:

«A great example of US peacekeeping. A harsh military operation in an independent country that posed no threat to the US. The seizure of a legally elected president along with his wife. Of course, all of this is strictly within the framework of international law and national legislation in agreement with Congress».

He further cynically remarked that American soldiers should have chosen a different target, specifically pointing to Ukraine. According to him, it would be «nice» if the US «attacked Ukraine's military bases».

Conclusions on power change

Medvedev also stated that the only way to prevent external changes of power is the possession of weapons of mass destruction. He emphasized that

«the operation in Caracas is the best proof that any state needs to strengthen its Armed Forces as much as possible, not allowing various rich intransigents to easily change the constitutional order in search of oil or something else».

In his opinion, the maximum protection of the country against such scenarios is precisely the possession of nuclear weapons, indicating the Kremlin's orientation towards nuclear blackmail in global politics.

Russia's reaction

Russia, for its part, accused the US of «an act of armed aggression» against Venezuela, expressing its «deep concern» and recognizing the reasons for such actions as «unconvincing». The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs traditionally called for «dialogue», emphasizing the inadmissibility of escalation and the readiness to facilitate the resolution of the situation, stressing Venezuela's right to self-determine its fate without external interference.

The situation in Venezuela

In the capital of Venezuela, Caracas, loud explosions occurred in the morning, smoke was observed, and planes were recorded over the city. In response to these events, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro issued a decree declaring a state of external attack across the country, ordering the implementation of national defense plans «at the appropriate time and under appropriate circumstances».

Donald Trump, in his post on the Truth Social platform, reported on the detention of Nicolas Maduro and the removal of the Venezuelan leader from the country, claiming that the US successfully conducted a large-scale strike on Venezuela.

The situation in Venezuela continues to escalate against the backdrop of international tensions. The reactions of Russian officials and the US military actions in the region indicate serious political changes that may affect geopolitical stability in Latin America and beyond. It is important to monitor the development of events, as each new piece of information can change the perception of the crisis situation.
