NYT: Trump's team considers ending the war in Ukraine using a Korean scenario.
Trump develops plan to resolve the conflict in Ukraine
U.S. President Donald Trump and his team are working on a plan to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, which may include a ceasefire similar to the one that occurred in Korea in 1953. This is stated in a detailed analysis by The New York Times. Special envoy Keith Kellogg emphasized that achieving a 'solid and sustainable solution' is possible within 100 days.
According to NYT, the agreement may involve maintaining Russian control over 20% of Ukrainian territory as part of the ceasefire. The main issue is ensuring security, with the possibility of deploying European peacekeeping forces led by the United Kingdom, Germany, and France being considered.
However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky views NATO membership as the only means of ensuring the country's security. NYT notes that the success of the agreement will depend on the U.S. willingness to continue providing intelligence and weapons for Ukraine. U.S. Vice President Jay D. Vance is one of the critics of continuing military assistance.
It is worth noting that U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Keith Kellogg proposed a peace plan that involves a quick ceasefire and conflict resolution through negotiations by freezing the front line. This plan also envisages U.S. assistance in exchange for Ukraine's participation in peace talks and the threat of necessary weapons for victory if Russia refuses to negotiate. It also includes postponing Ukraine's NATO membership if negotiations with Russia begin.
