Romanian Border Crossing to Close for Bridge Repairs on the Tisza River.
Border Crossing Restrictions with Romania
According to Novyny.live: Starting February 16, 2023, the 'Solotvyno — Sighetu Marmației' border crossing point will be subject to daily restrictions. This is due to essential repair work on the bridge spanning the Tisza River. Vehicle processing at this checkpoint will be suspended daily from 09:00 to 16:00, which will complicate border crossings for drivers and passengers. This crossing is a key transit route in the Zakarpattia region, connecting Ukraine to the European Union.
Duration of the Restrictions
The travel ban through this specific point will remain in effect until April 3, 2023. As stated by the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (SBGS),
"Border crossing at the 'Solotvyno — Sighetu Marmației' checkpoint will be temporarily restricted due to repairs on the bridge over the Tisza River."These measures are aimed at ensuring safety and carrying out the necessary repair work.
This closure may significantly impact the transport of goods and passengers between Ukraine and Romania, as this is a vital link for cross-border connections. Travelers and transporters are strongly advised to:
- plan their journeys well in advance;
- account for potential delays due to the bridge repairs.
This situation underscores the critical importance of maintaining infrastructure for both border security and operational efficiency.
