Odesa Prepares for Its Spring Greening Initiative

According to Novyny.live: The city of Odesa is getting ready for its annual spring landscaping campaign. The municipal enterprise 'Miskzelentrest' has announced a tender for the purchase of flowers, with the goal of enhancing the visual appeal of the city's flowerbeds. This tender, valued at over 800,000 hryvnias, is a key part of the city's preparations.

The total expected cost for the flower procurement is 815,371.58 hryvnias. Bids for this contract will be accepted until March 11, 2026. The planned purchase includes a wide variety of plants to ensure vibrant public spaces:

  • 534 seedlings of three varieties of begonia;
  • 1,386 plants of two varieties of canna lily;
  • 2,000 coleus seedlings;
  • over 6,000 petunias;
  • 50–100 trailing pelargoniums;
  • more than 10,000 chrysanthemums.

In a separate but related tender, the city is also seeking services for the maintenance of its automatic irrigation systems. This investment, expected to cost 3,094,181 hryvnias, is crucial for maintaining the health and vitality of the new plantings throughout the spring season. Such urban greening projects are common in European cities, aiming to boost civic pride and environmental quality.

The Broader Impact of Urban Greening

This comprehensive effort underscores Odesa's commitment to caring for its green spaces. The landscaping initiative forms part of a wider municipal strategy to improve the city's ecological health and aesthetic environment.

Involving public utility companies in these projects demonstrates the local government's aim to create more comfortable conditions for both residents and visitors. Beyond the visual benefits, increased urban greenery positively impacts air quality and the local microclimate, contributing to a healthier and more sustainable city.
