Central Election Commission expert warned about the risks of Russian hacker attacks on electronic voting

According to ТСН: Former Deputy Head of the Central Election Commission Andriy Magera warned about potential threats that may arise during electronic voting in Ukraine due to hacking activity by the Russian Federation.

He noted that Russian hackers may attempt to interfere with the voting system to distort the results in favor of pro-Russian forces.

"For Russia, there are no significant problems to interfere in the information systems of almost any country in the world... I don't know if they will interfere, but the risks are extraordinarily high," said the former Deputy Head of the Central Election Commission.

Magera emphasized that any attempts by the Russian Federation to interfere in the electronic voting system could lead to the falsification of results that would be impossible to verify.

"If in regular elections there are paper ballots, protocols, instructions — we will have nothing here. And this is a problem," he noted.

It is also important to note that President Volodymyr Zelensky supports the idea of online electronic voting in presidential elections through 'Diyа' and other electronic platforms.

In an interview, U.S. President Donald Trump emphasized the necessity of holding presidential elections in Ukraine, noting that Kyiv is "using the war to avoid holding elections".

The issue of electronic voting is gaining particular relevance against the backdrop of growing cybersecurity threats. If this initiative is implemented, Ukraine needs to consider all possible measures to protect the election process. The importance of such approaches underscores not only the security of elections but also citizens' trust in the voting results.
