Humanitarian Crisis Deepens Across Ukraine

According to Novyny.live: The United Nations has documented more than 15,000 civilian deaths in Ukraine since the full-scale invasion began, with 775 of the victims being children. The number of wounded has also climbed, reaching 42,144 individuals, including 2,588 minors. In February 2023 alone, at least 188 civilians were killed and 757 others injured, underscoring the ongoing toll on non-combatants.

Beyond the human cost, the war has severely damaged the country's infrastructure. About 60% of gas extraction capacity has been destroyed, and every thermal power plant in Ukraine has sustained damage.

Rosemary DiCarlo stated, 'Massive winter attacks on energy infrastructure have essentially brought Ukraine’s power system to the brink of complete collapse.'
These strikes have led to widespread and persistent disruptions in electricity, heating, and water supply nationwide.

War's Broader Impact on the Population

The conflict has forced over 6.7 million Ukrainian refugees to remain abroad, while more than 3.7 million people are internally displaced. Rebuilding the country over the next decade will require at least $588 billion. The UN has also classified the abduction of Ukrainian children as a war crime, with investigators documenting the forced transfer of at least 1,205 minors.

These figures highlight the alarming humanitarian situation in Ukraine caused by the war, revealing how large-scale military operations devastate civilian life. The high number of civilian casualties and severe infrastructure damage pose serious challenges for the nation's recovery. The international community continues to monitor developments closely, particularly regarding humanitarian aid and the restoration of affected regions.
