Baerbock on peace in Ukraine: can UN blue helmets stop the war.
According to inkorr.com: The President of the UN General Assembly Annalena Baerbock believes that the deployment of a UN peacekeeping mission could be an important step towards resolving the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. This could be the key to ensuring peace in the region.
“And if the majority of member states say that blue helmets are needed for this, it could ensure peace for a long time,”– she added.
Baerbock also emphasized the importance of starting negotiations as one of the main tasks. Although her role is primarily representative, she is actively seeking different ways to achieve global peace.
Security guarantees for Ukraine remain a key issue
One of the main topics of discussion among allies is ensuring security for Ukraine. The Ukrainian authorities emphasize the need for clear international guarantees for any ceasefire or resolution of the conflict. Various options are being considered, including the possibility of involving European troops in peacekeeping missions or deploying UN's 'blue helmets.'
While several security agreements have been signed, the Ukrainian side acknowledges their limited strength and the lack of guaranteed effective protection. At the same time, Russia continues to avoid efforts to cease hostilities.
Signing peace agreements and providing security guarantees for Ukraine remain complex issues within the conflict with Russia. Deploying a UN peacekeeping mission could become an important tool for stabilizing the situation in the region; however, detailed negotiations and international agreements are key to achieving a successful resolution of the conflict.
