Some NATO countries supported the actions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Lithuanian Defense Minister Laurynas Kasčiūnas called this operation a positive step. However, Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto criticized it as an escalation of the conflict.
According to the command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, they captured significant territory and took Russian soldiers prisoner. This has caused concern and discussions about the possibility of Ukraine using Western weapons on Russian territory.
Evaluating the operation, expert from the US Institute of Peace Donald Jensen noted the effectiveness and creativity of Ukrainian forces, who found a weak spot in the Russian deployment and exploited it. Thus, this operation might change the West's perception of the combat power of the Ukrainian army.
