Passport and ID card no longer valid: Ukrainians given advice on what to do.
Ukrainians have been explained how to act if their passport or ID card is recognized as invalid. Specialists from 'Legal Advisor for IDPs' provided clarifications on this issue.
According to the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers No. 302 dated 25.03.2015, a document may be recognized as invalid in case of serious damage. In such cases, the passport is withdrawn, canceled, and destroyed.
The Order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine No. 456 dated 06.06.2019 specifies the specific cases when a passport is deemed unfit:
- Damage that does not allow identifying the owner or reading the main data
- Significant damage to the perforated series and number
- Presence of unauthorized corrections
- Damage that hinders reading information
- Changes in the data of the contactless electronic carrier
The document is also recognized as invalid in case of loss of citizenship, report of theft or loss, violation of requirements during registration, not receiving within a year, death of the owner, or expiration of validity.
In case of recognizing a physical passport as invalid, citizens can use the electronic passport in the 'Diia' application, which has equal legal force with the paper document and is accepted by all government bodies.
Recall that 'Diia' has launched a new certificate for retirees: how to obtain it.
