Pension Injustice: Why Thousands of Ukrainians Are Not Receiving Their Money.
Underpayment of Pension Payments in Ukraine
According to inkorr.com: Many Ukrainian pensioners who have devoted their lives to hard seasonal work, in the agricultural sector, or in creative professions, face the problem of not receiving a significant part of their rightful pensions. This is caused by unfair calculation mechanisms and bureaucratic obstacles. This is discussed in the latest issue of the magazine 'On Pension'.
Journalist Iryna Polyakova cites the opinion of pension expert Viktor Bohdanov, who notes that this situation is unfair to pensioners who worked in difficult conditions and now receive insufficient payments.
Main Categories of Affected Individuals
- Agricultural workers, collective farmers;
- Workers in seasonal and shift-based professions;
- Creative workers (architects, artists, writers);
- Individuals who worked under civil law contracts.
Until 2011, pension legislation contained restrictions on the wage coefficient, which led to reduced pensions for these groups of citizens.
Case of Underpayment
The situation of collective farmer Ivan Fedorovych is considered, who lost almost 150 thousand hryvnias over a five-year period due to wage coefficient restrictions.
Proposals for Solving the Problem
'Legislation simply needs to be amended to annul restrictions for this category of pensioners,' believes Viktor Bohdanov.
While the government of Ukraine is working on amendments to pension legislation to increase overall pension payments and balance the Pension Fund budget, thousands of pensioners continue to receive low pensions that do not match their contributions.
Several thousand Ukrainian pensioners may face undeserved underpayments due to wage coefficient restrictions that reduce their pension amounts. There are calls for the government of Ukraine to amend legislation to address this issue and ensure fair pension provision for all.
