Record queues at the border: truck drivers wait over 38 hours

According to ТСН: There is a significant increase in passenger traffic at Ukraine's western border due to the Christmas holidays. While thousands of Ukrainians return home, there are huge traffic jams on the Polish side, and the situation for exiting Ukraine remains tense. Some truck drivers have to wait in their cabs for almost two days.

Record in Lviv region: border operates at maximum capacity

According to the Western Regional Border Guard Administration, over the last day, border guards at the Lviv region processed more than 75 thousand individuals. This is a record number, indicating the start of a large wave of citizens returning home for the holidays.

Currently, the inflow into Ukraine significantly exceeds the outflow: the difference is more than 14 thousand people in favor of those returning. As a result of such an influx, all checkpoints in the region are operating under increased load. To expedite the process, additional work stations have been deployed, but the queues remain considerable.

Situation for exiting Ukraine: where the biggest traffic jams are

As of this morning, the situation for exiting remains varied. The largest traffic jams are observed in the direction of Poland:

  • Ustyluh: 135 vehicles and 10 buses;
  • Shehyni: 115 vehicles (there are currently no pedestrian queues);
  • Rava-Ruska: 100 passenger cars;
  • Krakivets: 55–70 vehicles and up to 15 buses;
  • Ugryniv and Hrushev: from 40 to 50 cars.

In other directions, the situation is much easier. At the border with Hungary, the most vehicles are at Kosino (50), while at Tysa and Luzhanka there are only 25-30 each. Checkpoints with Slovakia, Romania, and Moldova are almost free: at Porubne there are only 20 vehicles, while at the checkpoints 'Mamaliga' and 'Solotvyno' there are no queues at all.

Journalists from Poland, particularly RMF FM reporter Miroslaw Krasoń, describe an even more complex situation for those trying to cross the border from the Polish side.

  • Dorohusk: The queue of trucks has stretched over 10 kilometers, reaching the settlement of Okopy. Hundreds of trucks are stuck in the jam, and the waiting time for customs clearance exceeds 33 hours.
  • Korchowa: The situation is critical — truck drivers are forced to wait over 38 hours. For passenger cars, the queue to exit Poland through Korchowa is about 8 hours.
  • Other directions: In Budomezh, the waiting time is about 5 hours, in Medyka — about 3 hours. The fastest (in 2 hours) customs clearance can be done in Zosyn.

On Polish roads near the border, reinforced law enforcement patrols are monitoring safety and order in the queues.

Buses and 'eQueue'

The border guards emphasize that there is a system 'eQueue' for buses, allowing for planning crossing times. However, it is important to clarify: at the Shehyni and Krakivets checkpoints, the slotting system (pre-registration) is currently not functioning. This leads to chaos and additional strain on inspectors.

Drivers are advised: if you plan to travel in the coming days, monitor the queue status in real time and, if possible, choose checkpoints at the border with Romania or Slovakia to avoid prolonged waiting on the Polish side.

It should be noted that earlier reports indicated that the situation at the checkpoints between Ukraine and neighboring EU countries varies depending on the direction.
