Abu Dhabi Talks Face Potential Delay, Former Minister Cites Key Obstacle.
Why the Abu Dhabi Negotiations Could Stall
According to Novyny.live: Former Ukrainian Economy Minister Yuriy Yekhanurov has identified a primary reason why the ongoing talks between Ukraine and Russia in Abu Dhabi may be prolonged. He stated that the main obstacle is Moscow's unwillingness to make compromises, which significantly complicates reaching any agreement.
Yekhanurov also underscored the immense pressure facing the Ukrainian delegation. He remarked that
“today, you cannot envy either the president or our negotiators, given the extremely difficult situation in which they are conducting themselves”, highlighting the gravity and complexity of the circumstances surrounding the discussions. These talks are a critical diplomatic channel for a conflict with significant global implications.
Next Phase of the Negotiations
The next round of trilateral talks is scheduled for February 1. While expressing hope for positive developments, Yekhanurov pointed to a notable economic shift, stating that
“the positive thing is that significantly less oil is now coming from Russia”. This reduction in oil exports may signal economic pressures that could influence the negotiation dynamics. However, the former minister cautioned that without a demonstrated readiness for compromise from Russia, achieving concrete results in the talks remains uncertain.
The Abu Dhabi negotiations represent a crucial stage in efforts to resolve the conflict, and any delay points to continued underlying tensions. Russia's lack of compromise fundamentally hinders progress, while economic factors like the drop in oil exports may alter the strategic calculus of the parties involved. The outcome of these discussions is being closely watched, as it holds considerable potential to affect regional stability.
