Former coach of the football club «Karpaty» from Lviv Oleg Kononov commented on the situation in the Kursk region and expressed his support for Russian military personnel.

«I am worried and anxious for my loved ones. They are in Kursk itself. Constantly in touch. I wish them resilience and courage. We will not surrender to anyone, not to any Western patrons, victory will always be with us (Russia)», Kononov stated.

Kononov headed «Karpaty» in 2008. Under his leadership, the team achieved success in the Ukrainian championship, taking 5th place in 2010 and reaching the group stage of the Europa League, where they sensationally defeated Turkish «Galatasaray».

In 2011, Kononov was awarded the “Honorary Sign of Saint George” by the mayor of Lviv for his contribution to the development of the city. That same year, «Karpaty» again took fifth place and earned the right to participate in the Europa League.

In October 2011, the coach was dismissed from the club. He obtained Russian citizenship and began working in Moscow, where he currently heads the football club «Torpedo».

Due to the escalating conflict between Ukraine and Russia, the AFU developed a new strategy in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation, which involves rapid movement and encirclement of Russian troops. According to analysts, enemy troops are already encircled in the village of Kremyane in the Kursk region. Residents of the Kursk region are planning to evacuate en masse, but the Russian leadership is not providing the means to do so.

Due to the complex situation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine appealed to the UN to join in providing humanitarian aid to the Kursk region of Russia.

According to the Financial Times, the Russian Federation has already sent about 38 thousand people, including assault brigades, to the Kursk region to repel the AFU assault, but the counterattack is not yet large-scale.

Some residents, especially the elderly, refuse to leave the frontline zone either to Russia or Ukraine, and are hiding from their own relatives who are willing to take them.
