A senior British official greeted the Chinese president at the summit in Brazil

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer met with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In his conversation with Xi Jinping, he raised controversial topics, which led to British journalists being expelled from the room. This was reported by Politico.

According to the publication, November 18 marked the first meeting between the leaders of China and Great Britain in the last six years. This is being called an attempt to 'unfreeze' relations between the countries. Starmer wants to find ways to deepen ties with Beijing. Journalists were allowed to cover the British Prime Minister's speech.

'We want our relationship to be consistent, strong, with mutual respect and, as we agreed, without surprises where possible. Strong UK-China relations are important for both our countries and for the international community,' Starmer stated.

But then he began to speak about human rights, Taiwan, China's sanctions against British parliamentarians, and the case of Jimmy Lai (a Hong Kong media tycoon known for his criticism of the Chinese government. He is being prosecuted for supporting democratic protests in Hong Kong - 'Glavkom'). At that point, Chinese officials escorted two British reporters out of the room.

As is known, China is increasing its military capabilities and will be ready for an invasion of Taiwan by 2027. This was stated by the head of the United States Indo-Pacific Command Admiral John Aquilino.

Incidentally, Russia is discussing with China the issue of joint development and production of military products. This was announced at the Airshow China 2024 aerospace exhibition in Zhuhai by Mikhail Babich, Deputy Director of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSMTC) of the Russian Federation, according to Russian media.
