Ukrainian Army Lieutenant Colonel Calls for Replacement of Current Parliament.
Issues with Ukraine's Ninth Convocation of Parliament
According to Novyny.live: Lieutenant Colonel Maksym Zhorin, a deputy commander of Ukraine's Third Army Corps, has stated that the current composition of the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, must be replaced due to the inaction of most deputies. He made this criticism public on Thursday, February 10.
Zhorin emphasized his point, stating:
“This composition of the Verkhovna Rada must be replaced. It is simply impossible to watch this any longer. The majority of people's deputies—if they even make it to the sessions—bring no benefit whatsoever”(Maksym Zhorin). His remarks highlight a deep concern regarding the effectiveness of the current legislative body. This criticism comes at a time when Ukraine's political leadership is under intense scrutiny for its governance during a period of national crisis.
An Urgent Need for Change
The lieutenant colonel argues that the situation in parliament requires urgent change, as the inactivity of deputies can negatively impact crucial national decisions. Zhorin's statement has sparked discussion among the public and politicians about necessary steps in state governance.
Zhorin's expressed views reflect widespread public concern about the performance of the Verkhovna Rada, especially as the country faces severe challenges. The question of parliamentary effectiveness has become critical, as the nation's development and the implementation of vital reforms depend on deputies' decisions. This public critique from a serving military officer may intensify debates about potential changes to the political establishment and approaches to governing the country.
