Emergency Conditions at the Obolon Underpass

According to Novyny.live: In Kyiv's Obolon district, a pedestrian underpass near the Great Ring Road has fallen into a state of disrepair, posing serious safety risks due to accumulated trash and flooding. The interior of the tunnel is alarming, with large amounts of debris and urgent water issues creating a high risk of injury for those passing through.

To navigate the muddy and waterlogged pathway, people attempting to use the underpass have been forced to bring in old tires as makeshift stepping stones. The walls are also severely neglected, covered in graffiti and obscene language, highlighting a clear lack of maintenance and concern for pedestrian safety at this location.

Activist Anastasia Zhydenko stated: 'We saw people walking here with pets, and indeed this could pose a risk of injury for both humans and animals.'

The situation at this underpass demands immediate action to ensure the safety of Obolon district residents.

Infrastructure Challenges

It is worth noting that since July 1, electricity, gas, water supply, and sewage tariffs for Kyiv residents have remained unchanged. In mid-July, public transportation fares may also be updated. Meanwhile, since the start of the full-scale war, no new speed cameras have been installed in Kyiv, raising additional concerns about road safety.

The dilapidated state of the Obolon underpass underscores broader infrastructure and pedestrian safety issues in Kyiv. The lack of proper upkeep and attention from local authorities could lead to serious consequences if urgent measures are not taken to improve conditions. This problem serves as another example of the need for a systematic approach to urban infrastructure management amid the city's ongoing changes.
