American Airlines pilot earned $458,000: salary screenshot amazed the network.
According to ТСН: An American airline pilot shared a screenshot of his salary, which caused quite a stir on social media.
Pilot salaries vary depending on the airline, type of aircraft, and the number of hours spent flying throughout the year. However, the income data of one of the American Airlines captains made many consider a career change.
Impressive income
The screenshot of the pay stub, which appeared on platform X (formerly Twitter), likely belongs to a Boeing 737 captain working in Miami. According to this information, the pilot's annual income is about $458,000.
One of the reasons for such a high salary is the hourly rate, which will be approximately $360 per hour. However, this is not the maximum payment level in this field: captains of larger aircrafts, such as Boeing 777 or Airbus A350, can earn up to $450 per hour.
According to data from Flying magazine, on average, a pilot spends about 900 hours in the air per year, which is approximately 75 hours per month. Just by calculating, one can see that the total income is impressive.
Strict regulation
However, pilots cannot infinitely increase the number of flight hours, as their working hours are strictly regulated by federal norms. This also applies to rest periods between flights, time for pre-flight and post-flight procedures, as well as seniority in a specific airline.
People's reaction
After the screenshot was published on X, commentators actively discussed what they saw. Many of them noted that such a salary is quite justified given the responsibility:
I absolutely have nothing against the guy who is responsible for the machine that keeps me 10,000 meters in the air earning big money.
Kids, go get a pilot license.
When your life depends on someone, you want the most competent specialist at the controls. I like that captains earn high salaries and have the necessary training and experience to ensure flight safety.
However, there were also those who believe that even such a salary does not compensate for all the difficulties of the profession. “Even for $500,000, I wouldn't want to deal with terrible schedules, airports, a wide public, constant hotel living, union talks, delays, etc. I hate all aspects of commercial aviation. Sounds like a terrible existence.”
This situation with pilots' salaries highlights not only financial aspects but also the importance of a profession that comes with significant responsibility for the safety of passengers. In the context of high training requirements and working time control, the issue of remuneration becomes especially relevant.
