Prisoners of war from North Korea want to go to South Korea

According to inkorr.com: Two soldiers from North Korea, who participated in combat operations on the side of Russia, expressed their desire to move to South Korea. This information is provided by 'Glavkom', citing Deutsche Welle.

During an interview for a documentary filmed in Kyiv, the prisoners of war shared their intentions. The interview was organized by the human rights organization Gyeore-eol Nation United. According to their data, one of the soldiers had already made a similar request to a representative of the Korean parliament back in February.

From the photographs taken during the filming of the documentary, it can be seen that one of the soldiers has a jaw injury, which resulted in bone deformity. Also noted were drawings of portraits of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

At the same time, Ukrainian officials report that the prisoners of war are experiencing a psycho-emotional crisis and have attempted self-harm. Both soldiers requested eye medicine, knitted items, pants, cigarettes, pens, and books through the film's producer.

North Korean soldiers in Donbas

According to estimates from South Korean and Western intelligence agencies, about 10,000 North Korean soldiers may be sent to Ukraine in 2024 to support Russian troops. They are subordinate to the Moscow military command and actively participate in the conflict in Eastern Ukraine.

South Korean intelligence noted that North Korean soldiers are often ordered to commit suicide to avoid capture. In case of injury, they resort to self-destruction using grenades.

In September, the South Korean service reported that around 2,000 North Korean military personnel, who assisted Russia, have died in battles in Ukraine.

A representative of the North Korean prisoners of war expressed a desire to be transferred to South Korea. The soldiers are in a severe psychological state and have shown signs of self-destruction. The Ukrainian side is trying to meet their needs and find a way out of this situation.

The situation with the North Korean military and their wishes to leave Ukraine underscores the difficulties they face while being in conflict. The psycho-emotional state of the soldiers is a serious issue, as their lives have been endangered, and it is necessary to find an optimal solution to their problems. These events also indicate possible consequences for international relations, considering new military shipments from North Korea.
