Russia prepares to attack NATO by 2027: what is known about the Kremlin's plans

According to ТСН: NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte once again emphasized the threat from China. He spoke about the possibility of conflict for the first time this summer in an interview with The New York Times. In his opinion, if China attempts to attack Taiwan, Xi Jinping will first call Putin to ask him to 'divert NATO's attention.' A new Pentagon report states:

"China expects to be able to conduct and win a war against Taiwan by the end of 2027"
. This is related to the fact that in 2027, the People's Liberation Army of China (PLA) will celebrate its 100th anniversary.

Russian threats to the Baltics

Head of the GUR of the Ministry of Defense Kyrylo Budanov warned of a potential threat from Russia, especially to the Baltic countries. According to him, Moscow has moved its military preparation deadlines from 2030 to 2027. European intelligence agencies also emphasize the possibility of military confrontation between NATO and Russia in the next five years. Experts note that the risk of the worst-case scenario has emerged as a result of the Trump administration's actions regarding the 'peaceful' plan in the war between Russia and Ukraine.

The danger of a large war in Europe

In December, after the activation of Trump's peace plan, Putin twice emphasized Russia's readiness for war with Europe. He last made this statement during a meeting of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, where Defense Minister Andrei Biyolousov urged the military to be ready for conflict with NATO. Also, in September 2022, Xi Jinping demanded that the PLA prepare for real war.

In June, during the NATO summit in The Hague, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz claimed that Russia does not have the capabilities for an attack. However, German Lieutenant General Alexander Zolfrank warned:

"If we look at Russia's current capabilities and military strength, it could launch a small attack on NATO territory as soon as tomorrow"
. Some experts believe that Russia does not have enough resources for a conflict with European NATO countries, although Rutte emphasized the scale of ammunition production in NATO, highlighting that Europe cannot fully rely on the USA.

Putin's plans and the situation in China

Despite predictions of Russia's military stockpiles running out by 2026, Rutte noted that

"the Russian defense industry will produce 1500 tanks, 3000 units of armored vehicles, and 200 Iskander missiles in 2025"
. This raises concerns, as experts believe that if Ukraine is defeated, 'we (European NATO member countries - Ed.) are Russia's next target.'

Experts also believe that after a possible stabilization of the situation in Ukraine, Russia will be able to restore its forces for further actions against NATO, but it will require time.

"Russia will need about 5-10 years after the end of the war in Ukraine to rearm and prepare for an attack"
, analysts claim.

Hybrid war and Russia

There are ongoing concerns in Europe about possible hybrid attacks from Russia. Repeated incidents of cable damage in the Baltic Sea and the use of drones indicate that Russia is not losing activity in this area. Therefore, European countries should support Ukraine more to prevent possible aggressive actions from Russia.

European leaders are also worried that the return of occupied territories may become impossible, so Ukraine should negotiate for peace. However, according to some experts, the situation in Europe may worsen if adequate support for Ukraine is not provided, which may provoke new military actions.
