A channel for illegal trafficking of persons uncovered in Chernivtsi

According to ТСН: In Chernivtsi, law enforcement officials have stopped the activities of a major channel for illegal trafficking of people across the state border. Seven men were trying to leave Ukraine, hiding in a truck carrying alcoholic beverages.

This information was provided by the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. The attempt to illegally cross the border was detected at the "Mamaliga" checkpoint. Officers of the border service, having received operational information, stopped a "DAF" truck for inspection.

According to the documents, the vehicle was heading to Moldova with a shipment of alcohol. However, during a detailed inspection among the pallets of goods, border guards found an "additional cargo" - seven men of conscription age.

The investigation found that the organizer of this scheme was a foreign driver. For the "safe" transportation across the border, each of the "passengers" had to pay from 6 to 13 thousand euros.

Five men started their journey from Kyiv, while the driver picked up two more along the way - in Khmelnytskyi and Khotyn.

During the search of the truck's cabin, 34 thousand euros in cash were seized. As reported by the State Border Guard Service, the driver was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. He is already being charged under Article 332 of the Criminal Code (illegal trafficking of persons across the state border of Ukraine). The penalty for this article includes severe punishment, including imprisonment.

It is worth noting that earlier it became known about a man who received a draft notice and hid from mobilization for over two years. A resident of Kharkiv underwent a military medical commission, received a combat draft, but did not arrive at the collection point of the Territorial Center for Recruitment, evading military service.

The uncovering of this trafficking channel indicates serious security problems at the border, as well as an increased demand for escape from the country among conscripts. In light of ongoing military actions, this situation is yet another testament to the growing risks and challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in Ukraine.
