A complex situation has arisen in frontline Kursk, as Russian authorities have left local residents without support and have been shelling the civilian population. Since no one agreed to evacuate, Ukrainian military forces communicated news about their relatives to the Russians.

According to intelligence data, North Korea plans to send additional troops to the Kursk region within two months. The North Korean units deployed in Ukraine include approximately 500 officers, including three generals.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also reported that 4,000 out of 12,000 North Korean soldiers have been killed in Kursk. These statements were made during the World Economic Forum in Davos.

New recordings of the meeting between captured North Korean soldiers and investigators from the Security Service of Ukraine have also been released. According to a captive, North Korean units in Kursk are suffering significant losses that are difficult to quantify. The soldier also stated that he did not know where and against whom he would be fighting.

The Future of North Korean Troops

According to analysts at ISW, if the North Korean troops in the Kursk region continue to suffer heavy losses, their number, which reaches 12,000 people, will significantly decrease due to injuries and deaths by mid-April 2025.

The South Korean government is reported to conduct consultations with Ukraine regarding the return of North Korean soldiers who have found themselves in the captivity of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
