Ground Forces on Violations in Assault Units: This is Not a Systemic Issue.
According to ТСН: The Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed that the cases of violations of the rights of servicemen in assault units identified by the military ombudsman Olga Reshetilova are not systemic in nature. However, they emphasized the importance of 'special attention' to such appeals.
According to representatives of the Ground Forces, these are individual units, not the entire system as a whole. Most commanders and servicemen adhere to military standards, maintain discipline and show respect for their comrades.
The statement also noted that the materials forwarded to law enforcement agencies 'should receive further legal assessment in the established manner.'
'It is essential for us that every soldier is protected, and the service meets the standards for which we fight. Control, transparency, and response to signals strengthen the military even in the hardest times,' representatives of the Ground Forces stated.
Identified Incidents
Recently, in an interview, military ombudsman Olga Reshetilova reported that during inspections in some units, 'outright crime' was detected. She spoke about cases of beatings, illegal deprivation of liberty, as well as threats to the life and health of servicemen in assault units.
Reshetilova also noted that materials regarding incidents with signs of crime have been handed over to law enforcement agencies. 'The work of the Military Ombudsman demonstrates that control mechanisms in the defense sector are functioning and capable of identifying problems where they arise,' she emphasized.
We remind that earlier Olga Reshetilova received numerous complaints from servicemen of the 'Skelya' regiment concerning serious violations of their rights, including beatings and psychological pressure from the command.
These events underline the importance of ensuring the rights of servicemen, especially in wartime conditions. Oversight by the ombudsman and law enforcement agencies can be a key factor in identifying and addressing issues to ensure justice in military units and support the morale of the army.
