Poland Imposes Airspace Restrictions Near Ukraine and Belarus

According to Novyny.live: From June through September 2026, Poland is enforcing new limitations on air traffic along its borders with Ukraine and Belarus. These measures primarily affect small aircraft and are designed to enhance security in the country's eastern regions.

The newly designated restricted zone, EP R131, replaces the previous EP R130 area. It covers eastern Poland from ground level up to FL95 (roughly 3 kilometers) and spans a corridor 20 to 50 kilometers wide. Between June 10 and September 9, 2026, different operating conditions will apply depending on the time of day.

  • At night, all flights are banned except for military, rescue, and pre-approved operations.
  • During the day, certain categories of flights are permitted but only under strict oversight.
  • Flights may be suspended for up to approximately 25 minutes following a coordinator's decision.

These steps aim to boost safety in border areas and reduce aviation-related risks in the region.

The restrictions come in response to the volatile situation nearby, where the threat of conflict escalation and military activity remains high. As a neighbor to both Ukraine and Belarus, Poland is taking proactive measures to secure its airspace—a move that underscores broader concerns about regional stability. Given the mounting tensions, similar precautions may become more common for other countries sharing borders with potentially hazardous zones.
