Updated Compensation for Workplace Accidents in Poland

According to Novyny.live: Starting April 1, 2023, Poland will increase one-time compensation for workplace accidents or occupational diseases by 9%. The new payout rates will remain valid for one year, potentially providing significant financial relief to affected workers.

Under the revised system, compensation for each percentage point of permanent health impairment will be set at 1,781 zloty. In cases of total incapacity for work, the lump sum will reach 31,162 zloty. If the surviving spouse or child of a deceased worker is entitled to compensation, the amount will be 160,264 zloty. These changes aim to strengthen social protection for employees injured on the job.

Workplace Accident Statistics

During the first half of 2025, Poland recorded over 30,000 workplace accidents, including 80 fatalities and 219 cases of severe injuries. The highest accident rates were reported in the Opole, Silesia, and Warmian-Masurian voivodeships. These figures highlight the ongoing need for improved occupational safety measures.

  • Waste management
  • Healthcare and social assistance

In 2026, Poland's minimum monthly wage will rise to 4,806 zloty, with a minimum hourly rate of 31.40 zloty gross. These compensation and wage adjustments represent key steps toward better working conditions in the country.

The increase in workplace accident compensation is part of the government's broader effort to enhance worker social protection. Given the accident statistics, especially in high-risk industries, these reforms can significantly improve financial support for victims. They also underscore the urgency of raising safety standards to reduce future injuries and fatalities.
