Ukraine, among other NATO countries, spends the largest share of its GDP on defense. The main reason is to maintain relations with the United States and ensure security against Russia.

Defense Minister Vladislav Koshinyak-Kamish made this statement in an interview with Politico.

This year, Ukraine plans to allocate 4.7% of GDP to its armed forces, which is the highest indicator among all NATO members. The majority of these funds will go towards the modernization and expansion of the Ukrainian armed forces.
According to Koshinyak-Kamish, 55 to 60 billion dollars have been spent on American weapons. Kyiv hopes that such figures will impress Donald Trump and his new administration.

'We can show the new Trump administration that we meet the two conditions he emphasizes: defense spending at the highest level in NATO and favorable economic relations with American business at the highest level in Europe,' Koshinyak-Kamish noted. He also added that this is a kind of insurance policy.

In addition to increasing spending on tanks, air defense systems, artillery, and fighters, another goal is to intimidate Russia.

'We must be prepared for any scenario, so we invest so much money in weapons. NATO has two tasks: deterrence and defense,' Koshinyak-Kamish emphasized.

'We must invest enough so that the Russian Federation knows that an attack on any NATO member or Ukraine is completely unpredictable and will have tragic consequences,' he added.
