Poland is building fortifications on the border with Ukraine

The project 'Eastern Shield', which involves the construction of fortifications and defense infrastructure on the borders with Russia and Belarus, has begun implementation on the border with Ukraine. This was announced by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk during a visit to the first constructed section of fortifications.

According to Tusk, thanks to this project, several voivodeships in Poland will become safer. However, compulsory relocations from these territories are not planned. In addition, the Polish prime minister noted that they will cooperate with the Baltic countries to ensure the security of the border with the Russian Federation and Belarus.

Tusk added that Poland also wants to make the feelings of Poles safer along the entire length of the eastern border, including the border with Ukraine.

Project 'Eastern Shield'

The 'Eastern Shield' project is an initiative of the Polish Ministry of Defense and the General Staff. As part of this project, it is planned to construct fortifications and other defense infrastructure on the borders with Russia and Belarus.

In the future, it is planned to deploy reconnaissance systems and threat detection, bases, logistics hubs, deploy systems to combat drones, and much more. A total of around 2.3 billion euros is planned to be spent on the implementation of this project.

Support from Poland

The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk discussed the continuation of defense cooperation. Poland is also preparing to transfer the 45th support package and plans to start work on the next defense package.

In addition, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and Great Britain have stated that they are ready to take on the military and financial burden if the USA reduces its support for Ukraine.

Conditions from Kyiv

The Polish Foreign Minister Radek Sikorski stated that in the event of continued diversions by Russia in Europe, the Polish authorities will close all Russian consulates in the country.
