Poland's New Border Rules for Ukrainians: What to Expect in Przemyśl and from 2026.
Revised Border Control Procedures in Przemyśl
According to Novyny.live: Poland's Ministry of the Interior and Administration has announced that border checks for travelers from non-EU countries will be conducted inside the terminal building at Przemyśl Główny station. The ministry confirmed it will not revert to conducting checks on board trains, a move intended to streamline the process and make it more convenient for passengers. These operational changes are being implemented ahead of broader EU-wide regulations.
Passengers arriving from outside the European Union will face new security requirements. Specifically, they will need to undergo facial scans and provide fingerprints. These biometric measures are designed to enhance border security across the EU's external frontiers.
Key Information for Ukrainian Travelers
Starting in 2026, new EU entry rules will take effect for Ukraine, requiring travelers to obtain an ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) travel authorisation. The application fee for this electronic permit is set at 20 euros per person. Once granted, the ETIAS authorisation will be valid for three years or until the holder's passport expires, which should simplify trip planning for frequent travelers to Poland.
The overarching goal of these procedural updates is to facilitate smoother entry into Poland while bolstering border security. The introduction of ETIAS is part of a wider European Union initiative to strengthen oversight of its external borders. For Ukrainian citizens, this represents a new framework for travel, necessitating preparatory steps like applying for the permit in advance. It is crucial for travelers to stay informed about these changes and plan their journeys accordingly to meet the new requirements.
