Banks may block transfers due to a phrase in the payment purpose: how to avoid problems.
Money transfers are common transactions for modern individuals, but not everyone knows that even such an everyday matter can have unpleasant consequences. For example,
funds may be frozendue to a thoughtless phrase in the payment purpose.
What phrases may lead to blocking a money transfer
In Poland, as in many other countries, banks have the right to temporarily stop a money transfer if the text in the 'Payment purpose' field raises suspicion. This can happen even when the wording seems safe or humorous.
Financial institutions automatically check the content of the payment purpose using special programs. The following can fall under the 'filter':
- swear words;
- mentions of illegal activities;
- phrases that the system mistakenly considers dangerous.
In disputed cases, the payment is additionally checked by bank employees.
How to avoid blocking funds
As an example, the publication Bankier.pl told about a blogger who paid an IT specialist for developing a website about comics. In the purpose, he wrote: 'Blog about comics - first payment' (Blog o komiksach - pierwsza rata).
The automatic system split the word komiksach into 'komi' and 'ksach' and decided that this might be related to circumventing sanctions. The thing is that 'Komi' is a region in Russia, and mentions of it can be interpreted as risky. As a result, the transfer was temporarily blocked.
Therefore, experts emphasize that it is better to avoid ambiguous, unclear, or humorous wording in the payment purpose to avoid finding oneself in a similar situation.
Earlier, we wrote that in Poland, utility expenses usually make up about 15% of the average income, but this amount depends on the housing area, the number of residents, and the location.
We also mentioned that Ukrainians come to Poland not only for temporary protection but also to meet relatives or travel. However, sometimes they have prohibited items for import and do not want to get rid of them.
Even with ordinary money transfer operations, it is worth carefully choosing phrases in the payment purpose to avoid unpleasant surprises and blocking of funds by the bank due to suspicious wording.
